History of the Jazz. SS20 Lookbook. Abstract Jazz.More Images. In a world of neutral feet and stability shoes, we often forget the rare supinator —underpronating and underrepresented.

For those whose feet actually roll outward slightly when they run, the Ride ISO 2 fills a void. The shoe uses two types of foam: a softer Everun topsole that sits closer to the foot, and a more substantial PWRfoam underbelly to dampen impact where you hit the road.

The design cradles the foot a little deeper in that top layer, made from thousands of bouncy TPU pellets, which lends more support while still remaining accessible to neutral feet. Like its predecessor, the Ride keeps its titular ISOfit upper, with floating eyelets for fine-tuned lacing, that gives a secure fit through the midfoot. The underlying construction of the Ride remains mostly unchanged. The shoe still uses two types of midsole foam—a thin layer of softer Everun closer to the foot and a firmer chunk of PWRfoam beneath it—but adds 2mm of the latter in this update.

Saucony has thinned the outsole slightly, so the stack height, weight, and 8mm drop are still the same, but our testers and RW lab data confirmed that the shoe feels a little different. Its cushioning brings responsiveness that beats plusher daily trainers, making it nimble enough for whatever your next marathon training block has in store—faster workouts included.

The extra thick tread on the first Ride ISO felt like overkill for a road shoe. These upgrades cut down on some of that outsole bulk without loss of durability or traction. Heel-to-toe transitions will also feel smoother in this update, with widened flex grooves that add suppleness for more natural toe-offs.

The Ride 10 was the last version of this shoe to see a traditional upper; the previous update technically the Ride 11 made the switch to the new ISOfit style, an inner sock-like sleeve with stretchy, independent bands that wrap the arch. The mesh cleans up nicely as well in a stretchier double-jacquard weave that provides more structure and breathability, and adds two slim overlays on the sides of the midfoot for extra support. Kate C. It is hard for me to find a flaw.

I have a wider foot and these felt perfect; maybe someone with a more narrow foot would think they were too roomy. The cushioning was just right—not too much, but I like a lot of cushion—and I can wear them all day without my feet getting sore.

Overall, I felt stable in this shoe without it feeling bulky or heavy. Trail Running. United States. The fit is wider than most road trainers, and the collar is lined foam for a soft yet secure feel at the heel and ankle. The shoe is rather stiff, thanks to the combination of foam, polyurethane, and rubber under your foot. That thin TPU topsole layer adds some spring to a relatively firm shoe; our wear-testers who ran in the similarly designed Guide ISO found its cushioning to be significantly firmer than previous Guide models.

Indeed, most testers gave the shoe high marks for stability and cushioning. The heel counter and collar are well-padded. The fit is relatively wide compared to Nike and Adidas shoes—those shoes tend to feel too slim when I pair them with thick winter running socks.

The ISOFit lacing system uses segmented wings to help you vary the tightness along the midfoot. For the Guide ISO 2, Saucony updated its Tri-Flex tread pattern, a series of chevron-shaped rubber treads beneath the midfoot and forefoot. The design lets the front half of the midsole flex unimpeded.

Previously segmented horizontally and vertically, the treads are now connected horizontally; Saucony says the pattern is designed to disperse force evenly across the shoe. Despite its firm medial post, the Guide ISO 2 feels relatively flat, with respect to both heel-to-toe drop and arch support.

Neutral Cushioned shoes offer very little or no structure or pronation support and are generally more flexible than stability shoes. Runners who require a neutral shoe tend to notice more excessive wear on the lateral outside side of the soles of their running shoes.

Neutral shoes can vary from lightweight and minimal cushioning to maximum levels of cushioning depending on the needs and preferences of the runner. Powered by. Write A Review. Ask A Question. How did this item fit?

This year Saucony has updated the Freedom ISO with the aptly named Freedom ISO 2 making minor tweaks to the trainer in a fashion that delivers a more comfortable yet less snappy ride. The updates on the popular trainer keeps the Freedom ISO 2 as a great option to be a workhorse daily trainer for more experienced runners and should keep the fans of the initial release happy.

The premise is unchanged; lightweight, durable, and capable of handling every run. The main updates to the original as are follows. So many updates to an already incredible shoe can be risky but in this case Saucony may have actually improved the Freedom. Unboxing the Freedom ISO 2 it immediately reminded me of the original; it looks like the same shoe even with all these updates and is offered as of this date is an all-black and an all-white colorway.

The Freedom has always been a shoe offered in bright colorways and that trend appears to be continued. Putting them on for the first time was a treat as the ISO-lacing system with the cushioning of the upper is very plush and comfortable.

One negative noticed on the first run which is a continued minor complaint of the first version is that I wish the laces were a little longer for the lacing system employed by the shoe. Much like the first version — the entire point of this shoe is the sole unit. Durable beyond belief and very lightweight for the amount of cushioning. In the first iteration of the Saucony Freedom ISO, had a full length crystallized rubber outsole which provided durability, a striking look, but maybe one of the only drawbacks of the shoe.

The second version counters this effect by having some grooves cut out in the crystalized rubber.

Women's Freedom ISO 2

This lessens the amount, increases flexibility, but does not negatively impact durability. At first glance the upper for the Freedom ISO 2 looks unchanged which is great news given that the original upper was fantastic. The ISOFIT lacing system remains comfortable, the plastic band across the heel returns, and the reflective elements which stand out all stay in the second model.

What is new however is the material used to create the upper. ISOknit, similar to any other companies full knit upper, is breathable, soft and comfortable. I do not believe that this is enough to change your sizing of the shoe, but should be on your mind when buying it if you are between half sizes and needed to size up more than usual for the first Freedom. Following up a very successful shoe can be difficult.

How many runners complain that New Balance ruined the Zanteor the magic of the first 5 Kinvara iterations is gone. Going into testing of the Freedom ISO 2 there was the concern of following up the original, but also in some of the changes made. Generally adding weight is viewed negatively. A lower toe spring and higher stack height makes for a less aggressive shoe.

And personally I think Saucony knocked it out of the park on this one. We previously described the first version as a no-brainer if Saucony shoes work for you.
